The Contemporary Portrait

The beauty of studying at Metàfora, here in Barcelona, is that traditional subjects are tackled within the context of contemporary thinking and personal perceptions. The portrait in its essence can have wide definitions. Piotr, with his usual humour and depth of knowledge, built a workshop around examining these possibilities. Exploring concept and experimenting with materials was the base of this workshop, which then developed into work based on our personal preferences. Our model was very patient as we used photography, lighting and headwear to develop ideas.

‘Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter.’
Oscar Wilde
