The chair in which no one sits…..reimagining the space

On Wednesday students from Metàfora began in an installation workshop with Carlo Valverde. Carlo led a discussion on defining what is an installation then he gave a presentation of his work. Followed by a review of installations in art history covering artists from the beginning of the 20th Century, El Lissizsky to Marcel Duchamp, from movements like Gutai in Japan to constructivism through to active contemporary artists. This was a standard format of a workshop although fascinating and compelling…….but then the real work began……

The school became the host for many site specific work created over the following two days…..and nothing remained standard……with every student trying and pushing new ideas to places unimagined before the start of the class, whether in the passage way between the studio spaces which was crossed and webbed with nylon and involved bending crawling and climbing just to get though with your coffee or the chair at the large table in the courtyard at which no one could sit…..
