The body and the mark
Using the body as a tool opens up the world of drawing and painting into a performative action. In the latest workshop with Piotr Pierski, he designed exercises and activities that helped us explore the possibilities and other dimensions to the simple act of mark making. Starting with examples such as Yves Klein and Rebecca Horn, Piotr began to develop in us an understanding of the historic use of the body and painting/drawing. It did get messy and so much fun was had. The big hall here at Metàfora was an explosion of colour and bodies. However the play led to some serious considerations about the physical action in marks. Work started to be developed through collaboration and individually. Resulting in some incredibly powerful and thought provoking performances.
